Social Deduction & Hidden Roles
Imposter — Game Guide & Rules
3–8 Players • Secret Topic Deduction • Live Voice/Chat Debate • Group Voting
What is Imposter?
Imposter is a multiplayer social deduction party game. At the beginning of the round, the server delivers a secret word and category to all Civilians. However, one player is secretly designated as the Imposter and receives NO word. Through rounds of subtle clues and live discussion, Civilians must detect the Imposter, while the Imposter attempts to blend in and deduce the secret topic.
Phase-by-Phase Gameplay Flow
- Role & Word Assignment: The server confidentially displays your role. Civilians see the secret word (e.g., "Eiffel Tower"). The Imposter sees only their undercover status.
- The Clue Round: Each player enters a one-word or short clue related to the topic. Civilians must give clues subtle enough not to hand the secret word to the Imposter, but clear enough to prove their innocence to fellow Civilians.
- Discussion & Debate: Players talk over built-in WebRTC voice chat or in-game text chat to analyze suspicious clues and interrogate players.
- Voting & Elimination: All players cast a vote to eliminate the most suspicious player.
Victory Conditions
Civilian Victory: Successfully identify and vote out the Imposter • Imposter Victory: Avoid detection or correctly guess the secret word.
Pro Strategy
- For Civilians: Never give an obvious synonym. Use tangential associations that only someone who knows the word would recognize.
- For the Imposter: Listen closely to early clues, give a versatile or neutral clue (like "outdoors" or "heavy"), and deflect suspicion during group voice discussion.
